Quite unfortunate. Quite.

My house (or microwave, really) dosen't want me to clean it. It fought back today. Here is what my fabulous, anatomically beautiful (I am being very sarcastic, people. I spent a large amount of my childhood feeling like I had man-hands. Have you seen that episode of Seinfeld? It's my favorite.) hand looks like now:

(This is the prettiness of our new kitchen table underneath the ugliness of my man-hand. Woo!)

My finger was literally SLAMMED into the side of the microwave and the nail was pulled ALL the way down to the cuticle. Not cute. Painful, bloody, after-lunch surprise. Thank goodness that my husband had not gone back to work from his lunch break and he could help his decrepit, mangled wife.

The scene of the crime:

Damn appliance.

So, for now I will just walk around like a Brit sipping tea with the pinky pointed slighty upwards and outwards. Poor me.

This has nothing to do with my mutilated pinky, but its super funny:

"Good morning, Pumpkin!" God love him.

Have a great week, friends! :)

Old Shirts. Ripped up and Reused! Reveal!

Now, I know you haven't been able to sleep because you have been wondering about these shirts and what I did with them. If you are lost and have no idea what I am talking about, refer to this.  Rach, unfortunately my dear, they did not end up in your Rubbermaid bin luggage for your cruise (Ha!), but they did end up here:

The glue-gun and I had a good time making this. And I didn't even burn myself. Not once. :)

She now has a place next to her friend on the couch:

Cute, huh? I can make you a pillow or just rosettes for the minimal price of $199 per pillow or a mere $25 per rosette. I will accept cash, check or money order. Sorry, no credit cards. ;)

Love,

Move on. You are no longer wanted here!

I was speaking to the vertical blinds that once lived in my kitchen:
"You are nothing, useless, no-good blinds. I wish you were never born! You were a mistake!"

Whoa whoa. "Simmer down" you say? OK, I will. Sorry.

Yes, it is true. We have disposed of our awful blinds only to have replaced it with this beaut:

Don't you LOVE it? My favorite part are the mounts that I chose:

Gorg! (Gorgeous, for those of you who do not know my lingo.)

Here is the husband, well part of him, working his magic on these bad boys:

Am I the only one who thinks his arm looks twisted and down-right CREEPY? He has an excuse, though. He broke it whilst playing soccer many a fortnight ago (I love you, Pride and Prejudice.).

OK.  Ignore everything I just said. I was joking, people. I wasn't joking about my sheer disdain for the vertical blinds, but I was joking about the sheet that now encompasses my eating quarters. We are, in fact, putting up some nice white linen curtains instead. I can't wait until they go up. I just need to finish the darned painting before we do that.  All a part of my living room makeover! Why must I be so obsessed with instant gratification? I want it to be DONE. Now.  :)

Have a glorious week!

Ah, no more toys...

...in the living room, that is. And that was a sigh "Ah"  not a scream "Ahhh!"...just so we are clear. Yahoo! It's so nice not to have blocks and trucks under my couch and behind the TV now.

I have officially moved all of E's toys and books to his room; packed nicely in shelves. It's not a baby room anymore. :(

See:

He knows where they are and plays just fine with them in his room.

Clutter-free and clean is so very nice. I forgot what the floor looked like over in the "toy corner" of the living room. And if you have been to my house, you know what I mean by the "toy corner." I hear you nodding your head, friends and family of mine. Now, whether this stays clean for more than 4 1/2 minutes or not...time will tell :)

He is also in his first colder-night jammies of the season. So cute, right?!

On a completely different note. Here is a yummy dessert recipe:

Sweet and Sticky S'more Bars:
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter, melted
2, 8 oz. pkgs. semi-sweet chocolate morsels (Although, I would say less is better. The layer of chocolate was a bit too thick for my liking. Less is more in this case, I think.)
4 cups mini marshmallows

Blend together the first 4 ingredients; set aside one cup of the mixture. Press remaining mixture into an ungreased 13x9 baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, or until golden. Let cool. While that's cooling, melt chocolate in a double boiler (Placing a  heat-proof bowl on top of a sauce pan of about an inch of simmering water to slowly melt the chocolate, if you didn't know. Hey, my mom didn't know. Sorry, Mom. Love you!); spread over cooled crust. Layer on marshmallows, pressing gently into warm chocolate; top with reserved graham cracker mixture. Broil 2 inches from heat source until marshmallows are lightly golden. Cool and cut into squares. Makes 1 1/2 dozen.

YUM.

Oh, and this is for you mom, since you refuse to sign up to Facebook:

Your little thug loves you!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

What's for dinner?

This is for all of you (Rachey, this means you especially!) who would like a few new recipes to try out. I know, in our family, we have about a dozen or two staple meals that we tend to cook a lot. The husband and I are creatures of habit, so we don't really mind eating certain things over and over again. However, I do love cooking and I do love trying new things--like every recipe that Ree puts in front of me. Don't you love how I call her by her first name, like we are friends? We are friends. She just dosen't know it. Yes, we only met once, but how could she forget my fabulously gorgeous face and my electric personality?

Moving forward.

Here are a few recipes that I have tried lately. I hope you like them and add them to your "same 15 meals again and again recipe book in your head." :)

Turkey Burgers With Mustard Sauce:
5 Kaiser rolls or hamburger buns (I use whole wheat rolls, cuz that's how we roll in my house. No pun intended. Yes it was.)
1 lb. uncooked raw turkey
1 egg, lightly beaten
3 Tsp. honey mustard
1/4 tsp. each salt and black pepper (I go heavy on the pepper. I like a little pepp in my step. No pun intended. Yes it was.)
1 Tsp. olive or vegetable oil
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 medium tomato, sliced
1 medium avocado, pitted, peeled, and sliced (optional)

Directions:

1. For bread crumbs, in blender or food processor coarsely process one roll. In large bowl combine turkey, egg, 1 cup of the crumbs, 1 tablespoon of the mustard, and the salt and pepper. Shape turkey mixture into four patties.

2. In extra-large nonstick skillet cook turkey patties in hot oil over medium heat for 12 minutes, turning once, or until no longer pink (165 degrees F).

3. 3. For mustard sauce, in small bowl combine mayonnaise and remaining 2 tablespoons mustard. Spread some sauce on remaining four rolls. Layer turkey patty, tomato, avocado, a dollop of sauce, and roll top. Makes 4 servings.

Beef and Rice Soft Tacos (this is a yummy and oh-so quick one, people!):
1 Tbsp oil
1 lb. lean ground beef
2 cups water
1 cup salsa
1 pkg (1 1/4 oz) taco seasoning mix
2 cups instant Brown Rice, uncooked (use the brown rice here. You cannot taste the difference and you get so much more nutritional value out of it!)
8 flour tortillas
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions
1. HEAT oil in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add ground beef; cook and stir until lightly browned. Stir in water, salsa and seasoning mix. Bring to boil.

2. STIR in rice; cover. Remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir.

3. SPOON ground beef mixture evenly onto tortillas; sprinkle with cheese. Fold half of tortillas to enclose filling.

Hope you try these! Both are easy and aren't too bad for you. Two pluses! (Pluses is a word, right?!)

Enjoy!

Old Shirts. Ripped up and Reused!

What are these going to be used for?

You'll see! It's a little no-sew project I am working on for my living room makeover. Me and sewing machines don't get along. Never have. Never will. I am fine with that.

I know you will be on pins and needles until I reveal what these scraps were lovingly remade into. :)

Pancakes and Frankenstein.

We love Sundays. They are our out-and-about-on-a-gorgeous-day, big breakfast-making days. Ofir and I decided that we will make Sundays our homemade pancakes days; make it a tradition for our kiddos. This was how our lovely morning started:

I was so excited when I found these pancake/egg stencils. I have been looking for some fun shapes and stumbled upon these at World Market (I love that store, by the way). We gave them a try this morning and they came out gloriously. Wouldn't you agree? :)

Oh, and on another note..Happy Halloween from E and Frankie:

Have a fabulous, beautiful Sunday my friends!
